Beginner Quilting

Tuesday Evenings/6 wks

In this series of 6 classes, you’ll be making a 9-block sampler quilt. With each block in the series you will learn a piecing technique that is a basic in many quilt patterns. You will be doing some sewing in class and some at home. In addition, you will learn about handy tools and simple tips that quilters use and love. Prerequisites: sewing machine in good working order that you are comfortable using.  Be ready to discover just how creative you can be!

 

 

Fast & Furious Placemats

Good Neighbors Stencilscape Class

Teacher: Jackie Paton

Fee: $65.00 plus $15.00 to Jackie for Art supplies

Anyone can do this! No painting experience or artistic ability is necessary! You'll be making an adorable wall hanging with sheep, houses, and crows as Jackie teaches you her fool-proof technique of painting on fabric with freezer paper stencils. You will leave with the completed painted portion of Good Neighbors and the pattern to complete the quilt portion of the project. Sign up early as class size is limited. Come see Jackie's beautiful sample. Bring your lunch. A yummy dessert will be served in the afternoon.

Pillowcases Day for ConKerr Cancer

It only takes one hour to make a pillowcase for a really great cause. Bring your machine and fabric or Cotton Weeds will have kits put together that you can purchase for 20% off and join us to make a pillowcase or more for ConKer Cancer. Visit www.ConKerrCancer.org for more information about this great organization. All pillowcases made in Maine go to Maine hospitals. Our caring and generous customers have donated more than 650 pillowcases to date! Dessert , cold drink or coffee will be served. No sign up necessary. Just come when you can anytime between 10:30-4:30 and make a pillowcase!

Knotty Basket

Come join Carol and make her newest pattern Knotty Baskets! Start with 2 ½” fabric strips filled with batting and Craf-tex and weave them to create a beautiful basket. Add a row of knots for a unique and unusual embellishment! You’ll be making the small size in class. Bring your lunch.

Basics in Miniatures

Ever gawk in amazement at the miniatures displayed in quilt shows and magazines? Every wonder, “How do they do that?” In this class you’ll learn the “Twenty Tips for Tiny Quilts.” We’ll cover all the techniques of traditional quilt making, but adapt them to working small. Emphasis is placed on cutting, sewing, and pressing carefully for precision piecing. Participants will make one or two tiny quilts utilizing the skills learned. Bring your lunch.

 

Paper Piecing

It’s so easy to make paper-pieced blocks. Learn all the basics of this fun, quick method.

You will make 4 small sampler blocks in class to make a small sampler wall quilt.  Pattern and fabrics will be provided.  All you need to bring is your sewing machine, sewing supplies and your lunch.                                                    

           

Crazy Shortcut Runner

Machine Quilting

Come learn more than the basics of machine quilting with Alice. You’ll practice with muslin sandwiches and learn in the ditch, grid, and echo. You’ll drop your feed dogs and practice free motion quilting. She’ll teach you about different battings, needle sizes and different thread types, She’ll share with you her years of experience so you’ll feel confident to tackle your own quilts. Your machine must be in good working order. Bring your manual, walking and darning feet.

 

Bali Point to Point Table Runner

Strip Tubing

With this fabulous tube technique, you can make fun and exciting quilts in no time. Sew the strips together into sets, sew the sets together into tubes, and cut out triangles that open to squares. It’s that easy. Perfect for jelly rolls or Bali Pops! Bring your lunch.

 

Petite Runners

A petite runner is a great size and shape for lots of uses: hang it between two doorways; place it on a coffee table or book case, or drape it over a little quilt rack. We’ll be making two petite runners in this workshop; one with blocks in a straight set, and one set on the diagonal.  Bring your lunch.

The last weekend days of each month are “finish a bolt and receive 20% off days”. It’s great for you and great for us: you can add to your stash and we get more room for new fabrics!

 

 

Class Policy: Classes will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Class must be paid for at time of registration to secure your seat in class. You may register in person or by phone. At time of registration, a supply list will be provided (if applicable). If the class you are coming to is a machine class, please be sure your machine is in good working order and you are comfortable with your machine. Classes start promptly at the given time. Classes are non-refundable unless we do not have our minimum for each particular class. Please check your calendar before signing up!
